Getting your VAT registration isn’t the thing you’ll need to become an Amazon UK seller. You also need:
- An International credit card: If yours can’t be used outside of India, you’ll need to apply for one that does.
- A bank account: This can be either a British, European or Indian bank account. Amazon will convert GBP into INR for you, saving you the hassle.
- A business address: You can use your home address if you don’t have any company premises.
- A Permanent Account Number (PAN) card: This is a ten-digit business identification card you apply for from the Indian Income Tax Department
- An Importer/Exporter Code (IEC): You need this to import and export goods in and out of India. You apply for this from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade
Get these in place, and you’re almost ready to sell on Amazon UK from India.
But wait a moment.
What about subscription fees and prices?
How much does it cost to sell on Amazon UK?
As of November 2022, there are two subscription types:
Individual
The upside, you’re not locked into a monthly subscription. The downside, you’re limited to selling less than 35 items per month.
Professional
A professional account subscription costs £25 (excl. VAT) per month, plus additional fees.
The upside, you can sell an unlimited amount of products. The downside, well, it’ll cost you substantially more every month, but if you’re selling a lot of products, it more than pays for itself.
What additional fees will you have to pay?
If you already sell on Amazon India or any other online store, you’ll know additional fees are par for the course
Amazon UK is no different.
The additional fees you’ll pay will depend on the types of products and services you offer customers, including:
Closing fees: If you sell media items, like Blu Ray, DVDs, Music, Books, Video Games, Consoles and Software, you will have to pay a closing fee of £0.50 per item sold.
Referral fees: These are based on the product category, but most referral fees are between 8% and 15%, approximately.
Shipping costs: These are calculated based on your shipping method. You can choose to post orders yourself or use Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), which is when you ship your products to one of their International Fulfilment Centres.
Amazon stores the products for you and delivers them once your customers have purchased them.
To learn more about FBA, read our article, How to Start Selling on Amazon FBA UK.
Other costs: These include optional extras, like Advertising or Premium Account Services.
Are there any language requirements?
You’ve guessed it: Yes.
But not speaking the language isn’t an important part of how to sell on Amazon UK from India.
Why?
Because many non-native speakers use a mix of 3rd party translators and Amazon’s translation support tools to create their listings. And if you’re an existing seller on Amazon India, it’s even easier, as you can use the Build International Listings (BIL) tool.
The BIL tool lists your products across multiple marketplaces. It translates your content from Indian to English and other languages, including French, Spanish, German, Japanese, etc.
It’s a great tool, especially if you’re selling across several Amazon websites and want to add offers and updates simultaneously.
And that’s it – everything you need to know about how to sell on Amazon UK from India.
